Boy, did this one tickle my imagination and science bones! Stephenson starts with a few pretty straightforward near future premises and follows through to an amazing distant future conclusion, with the usual cast of engaging and likable characters and engaging, accessible writing. About the only thing keeping it from being 5 stars is his usual lengthy explications in the middle of the action, but for us nerds that's more than forgivable.

#chunkster Great read, even at 850+ pages. The science is, as far as I can tell as a pretty well-informed layperson, well done. The characters are engaging. I was a little worried in the transition between the near-future and the far-future that it was going to lose me, but I was right back in, and the twist at the end was so perfect. Stephenson has another brilliant book on his hands.
