It wasn't that long ago that I read Pride and Prejudice, but reading this reminded me of why Jane Austen is considered one of the greats. Her writing is so wry, so clever, that you do have to concentrate to get the joke subtly worked into the end of the sentence. Despite their many differences, this skill makes her very similar to Gabriel García Márquez on this point, and illustrates why they are two of my favorites. Reread for our Austen summer. I enjoyed it more than I remembered, though it's still not my favorite Austen. Oh romance, you sweet miscommunication maker.
