This book is bizarrely uneven. I really liked the first 2/3rds – the main character is interesting and she’s doing interesting things. It seemed like every page was passing the Bechdel-Wallace test. The work Billie takes on in the magazine’s archives was fascinating; Billie was a good friend to the people around her—aware, appreciative, and compassionate. The storylines were interesting and unfurling at a nice pace.

Blerg. This is pretty terrible. I would like to read one of Reichl's memoirs someday, but this is what was available via ebook at the moment I needed something easy to read. Generally a fiction novel revolving around food seems to cover a lot of bases for me, but the problems with this are two fold. Firstly, there is soooo much going on here.
