I was told of this book by Slayra, who had an extra copy. As a rule I never say no to a given book, even if the subject doesn't appeal me, so I kept it. I must confess that I picked it up with some apprehension, not that I doubt her reviews (after all she was right when she couldn't finish reading Twilight *whistles innocently*) but the theme didn't seemed quite my thing. Yet, it surprised me positively.

Lots of fun, and good enough to send me immediately into its sequel, but it just doesn't hold a candle to Hunger Games. The comparison is inevitable, since they're the only two YA sci-fi novels I've read in the last decade or so, but the dystopic fight-the-power themes are too similar to ignore. If you only have a few days before civilization is destroyed, I'd head to Suzanne Collins first.

I borrowed this from my best friend in 2009 but didn't have time to finish it (being in grad school and all that). It's an interesting concept, though, and I hope to read the whole series once I have "free time" again.
