This is a great return to form for Sanderson for me after the small blip that was The Rithmatist (great magic system, flat characters). This book was smack dab in his wheelhouse with amazing world building, characters who are more than they seem, and an ending that comes out of nowhere and is perfect all at once. Sanderson long ago became a must read and I am so glad.

I picked this up because it's one of my favorite teen's favorite book and I can definitely see why! The action is non-stop and it's a richly imagined speculative world. I would hand this to middle schoolers and up who like superhero movies and/or fast-paced sci-fi stories.

Really well-laid-out future where "Epics" (superheroes) are created, seemingly by random mutations, and what that does to our world and accepted society when that happens. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what had happened to all of my favorite characters. As it's technically a YA series I was not surprised to find myself able to predict some of the basic twists and turns but even so, I was hooked until the end and eagerly look forward to the next installment, which is an obvious
