I picked up this book on a whim, because I had heard that the author was a homeschooler/unschooler, and because I too love the internet - and perhaps I'm weird, but not so much on the Internet, right? Anyway, I'm not a gamer, nor do I know any of the shows that Day has been a part of, so I wasn't sure I'd be able to relate to her story -- but I loved it! I kept wanting to read parts out loud to my two kids, who, like Day, were "homeschooled for hippie reasons, not God reasons." Day doesn't ideal

This was a really delightful memoir, and absolutely needs to be listened to, as Felicia Day is a fantastic reader, and her personality is really strong in how she reads it. I can't a really imagine how it would read in text, without all of her inflictions.
But for Geeks and Nerds--sure, she might be our Queen, only in that she's just as weird and awkward as the rest of us. But really she's the Creative Geek's queen. The passionate drive mixed with impostor sydrome mixed with a healthy obsession w ...more

I have babies and a desk job but I sure hope it's not too late in my life to be more like Felicia Day, because she is just. The. Coolest.

I'd never heard of Felicia Day - had to look her up on YouTube! - but my husband suggested I might enjoy this memoir, so I checked it out. I really enjoyed it - especially because she narrated the audio and she does a great job. She's funny, snarky, and seems really honest.
She describes an incident in the on-line gaming world called Gamer-gate - another new-to-me thing - and I was struck by the similarities to what has been happening in the on-line making world this year:

Fun book about anxiety, gaming, struggle, and success in the LA entertainment world. (What's not fun about all that?) Her writing style is very chatty, very "I'm just having a conversation with you", which is actually kind of irksome to my reading mind. But she's so likable as a narrator, and so honest (I think) in her admissions about her path, that I couldn't help but like the book. Occasionally, she also seemed to be summarizing for me, you know, in case I was just tuning in. I also don't lik

No denying that she is a charming, engaging, interesting subject. Maybe it's inevitable because of the way she has developed her career, but she is also a subject (at least in this book) who is chiefly focused on the question of how she is perceived. That's interesting, but not as interesting to me as the question of how she creatively makes content.

I don't read very many celebrity memoirs, but something about Felicia Day's spoke to me. I've always enjoyed her fun and quirky personality and the roles she has played, but I really appreciated the depth she gave to this memoir. She discussed her anxiety and depression issues and how she dealt with them, as well as provided a really great message on how important it is to be yourself -- whoever that is, and even if it isn't always easy.

I really enjoyed this book. I'm not a gamer and wasn't a giant Felicia Day fan before reading this, but this is a great book for everyone who suffers imposter syndrome or struggles with anxiety, perfectionism and procrastination. I found it really relatable and full of good reminders about how to be ambitious and dream big but also take care of yourself.
