A truly beautiful novel. I wanted to curl up and stay awhile on every page. The writing was so lyrical, romantic and beautiful.

A mystery for book lovers. I was immediately hooked into the mystery of Julian Carax and his novels. I wanted his novels to be real so I could also read them.

This book has wonderful characters, mystery, the history of a beautiful city, evil, love, best friends, novels...it is one of the most pleasurable experiences to get lost between its pages.

There are some surprisingly dark parts that are treated quite matter-of-factly and were pretty disturbing. I found myself so ...more

Very very engaging book! Setting in the old Barcelona, this book portraits the dark era of the great country Spain, and how it affected the literature world. Lost books, old romance, mysterious author, dark secret and tragic past, all were cooked really well into this gothic book. I just don't want the book to end! ...more
