Eis um livro que me conquistou às suas primeiras páginas. Como não o fazer quando descreve tão bem aquela sensação de descobrir 'o nosso livro'? De descobrir aquele livro que nos marca tão profundamente, que nos muda, aquele livro que nos alerta ou desperta para a importância da literatura, que nos arrebata de tal forma que passamos o resto da nossa vida de leitores a tentar reencontrar a mesma emoção em outros livros...

Não, não precisou de muito para me convencer que Carlos Ruiz Zafón é um escr Eis um livro que me conquistou às suas primeiras páginas. Como não o fazer quando descreve tão bem aquela sensação de descobrir 'o nosso livro'? De descobrir aquele livro que nos marca tão profundamente, que nos muda, aquele livro que nos alerta ou desperta para a importância da literatura, que nos arrebata de tal forma que passamos o resto da nossa vida de leitores a tentar reencontrar a mesma emoção em outros livros...

Não, não precisou de muito para me convencer que Carlos Ruiz Zafón é um escritor para continuar a seguir e é por isso que digo sem qualquer tipo de mágoa que só não lhe dou 5 estrelas porque primeiro veio Possession da A.S. Byatt. Só as páginas iniciais, a maneira como expressa tão bem algo que senti nos meus primeiros anos de leitura, enquanto crescia como pessoa e leitora, são o suficiente para justificar as 4 estrelas. O resto da história foi para mim um bónus, no entanto é um bónus que já encontrei melhor executado antes noutro lado. E porque digo isto?

Bem, neste livro, cujo título vai buscar à obra que Daniel lê e que muda completamente a sua vida, apesar de nos ser apresentado o que nos parece ser um exímio contador de histórias e com uma imaginação tão desconcertante, nunca nos é dado realmente a conhecer tal obra nem chegarmos nós à mesma conclusão. Tudo nos é dito pelos personagens sem que possamos nós, leitores, apreciar a escrita de Julian Carax por nós mesmos. Eis onde entra Possession...

Os enredos são, com todas as suas naturais diferenças, algo semelhantes, na medida em que há quem tente investigar a estranha história de autores e das suas relações interpessoais, partindo do que partilham nas suas obras. Mas se de Carax só podemos contar com as opiniões das personagens que leram os seus livros, A.S. Byatt deu-se ao trabalho (magnífico) de criar corpus de escritos dos seus autores ficcionados, Christabel LaMotte e Randolph Henry Ash, com diferentes vozes e estilos de escrita! E isso eleva, a meu ver, esse livro e fez com que esperasse o mesmo de Carlos Ruiz Zafón.

Possession é um livro que se estranha e depois entranha-se, só lhe dei o devido valor depois de ter-me desfeito do livro, algo de que muito me arrependo pois apesar de ter uma nova edição não é a mesma coisa. A capa não é a perfeita, o livro não é o mesmo que me levou a fascinar-me pela história e personagens... Mas o livro de Zafón entranha-se às primeiras páginas. Tenho de dizer que o li em espanhol, língua que estou a aprender, pelo que demorou o seu tempo mas a certa altura não sei se era pela nova língua ou se era para me deleitar com a sua belíssima escrita, que invoca o nosso imaginário e diferentes emoções. No entanto, sei que não vai permanecer comigo exatamente porque gostava de conhecer Carax como autor, gostava de o admirar tanto como Daniel e Nuria, mas como posso aferir o seu talento?

Além disso, também tenho que dizer que antecipei muito do que estava por vir. Não é mau, parece-me que faz as revelações no tempo certo, notando-se as bases para que não se questione quando surge a revelação, mas antecipei tantas reviravoltas!

"The Shadow of the Wind" had been sitting on my shelf for awhile and when Amanda and I both showed up to book club last month with it listed on our suggestions, we knew the stars had aligned and that it was time to read this novel.

It was a gripping read full of intrigue and lots of twists & turns. It was definitely one of those books where I wished my train would have delays on the way to work so that I could read even more of it in one sitting. ...more

I read this a few years ago. Remember loving it, but not sure what rating to give it. Might read again for a book group and I'll rate then.

Fantastic. Intriguing. Engaging. This book creates a world for the reader to dive into and explore. I liked it so much, that I am pretty sure I started unconsciously reading more slowly over time to prolong my foray into the story the book created. This book has intrigue, mystery, revenge, mysticism, fights, love, altruism and an old bookshop. Don't just take my word for it, read it yourself.

The beginning is definitely setting me up for a good read. I hope it does not dissapoint. There have been multiple times so far when I've wanted to write things down so I could remember them. I'm not usually like that.
Having finished the book, there were places near the end that made me uncomfortable. Right now I'm still thinking that it was a good thing. It's an excellent experience to be reading about things that happened in the past to a character and then totally different to have a scary ex ...more

Fantastic. Some books create a world that you feel you inhabit for the time you navigate through the pages between the covers anyhow. I think I specifically read slower to prolong my visit into this world. (Sorry! Cheese police! I know!) It's a little bit mystery, mysticism, love, danger, altruism, and revenge. Well, I'm sorry to say that this is yet another book that I didn't finish. I think my standards have changed since I only have a few precious minutes to read every day before I fall asleep. I made it more than 100 pages into this book and just couldn't keep going. The atmosphere was interesting, but the characters and story were less compelling for me. The theme of antique books and mysteries surrounding them makes this a logical choice for readers of DaVinci Code, Rule of Four and similar books. ...more
