I found all I wanted to tell in Daniel's review,so I picked some of his reviews which describes my opinion the best :

After reading this book I really didn't know how many stars I should rate it. On the one hand, this is such a beautifully written book. On the other hand, there are some serious flaws which distracts from the whole experience.

The book contains lots of memorable quotes as well, definitely a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

One of those novels that's impossible not to enjoy. It's definitely a throwback to those 19th century gothic potboilers - though without the updated take on sexuality. I liked this book...there was mystery, love and twists and turns that I just didn't expect. I also didn't know about the troubling period in Spain's history after their civil war and that was also intriguing. ...more

I read a quarter of this book and finally gave up. Too slow of a build for me. There are many people who like that kind of pacing, but for my low attention-span, I need things to get popping from the beginning.
