Not quite as strong a finish as I would have liked. Some of what is finally revealed isn't as shocking as I would have thought it would be, and the larger themes aren't connected as well as they could have been. He seems to have lost the eerie surreality of the first and even the second book. I suppose that's to be expected as he tries to balance between revealing what has actually happened and maintaining the creepy unknown. Still a wonderfully original series.

I'm really not sure how to rate this trilogy! I liked it enough that I read all three books, which definitely says something, as I am not unwilling to stop mid-book if I'm not enjoying it. I really, really love the atmosphere created in these books. There is a constant creepy tension that is very effective. But I'm really not sure I understood much of what happened.
