THE DRAMZ! I couldn't put it down. It's basically Center Stage x Gossip Girl. There are a LOT of issues here--eating disorders, racism, bullying... and, of course, love. Anyway, I'd definitely recommend it if "Center Stage x Gossip Girl" sounds like your cup of tea. ...more

This book is like watching Center Stage with the drama and intrigue boosted by a thousand (and I mean that in the best way possible).

Standings are precarious at the American Ballet Conservatory, a prestigious New York ballet school, and each girl wants to come out on top. In Tiny Pretty Things, we hear from three girls who are constantly competing with each other, some of whom are willing to do anything and hurt anyone to get the best roles. I made it to page 301, and I just could not deal with this book anymore. None of the characters are interesting--except Gigi--and NOTHING HAPPENED. Oh, sure, a lot happened but nothing to cause any actual forward motion in the plot. It felt like a lot of treading water.

So I skipped to the end and read the last 20 or so pages, and I really wish I had quit reading this book earlier.

I'm honestly surprised I liked this as much as I did. I love my YA but usually when it's of a dystopian or mental health variety. This book was straight up cutthroat drama... and it was great. ...more

I love a good, over-the-top teen dance movie, and this was the book version of that. Fun, soapy, and definitely drama-filled, if a bit choppy and lacking some of the character development and actual ballet scenes that I would have enjoyed.

So much drama at the ballet academy. This was actually a little too much for me. Someone needs to help all these ballet kids! Therapy and cake all around.

While the writing was good, this bitch fest of a ballet drama was not for me. I could see recommending it to someone who loves a gossipy novel.
