At this point, I think Sherman Alexie could write a version of the phone book and I'd probably read it with a great deal of zest. This book was a combination of short stories and poetry and many of the pieces made me wonder how far Alexie had mined his own experience to create these texts. Whether it's an ode to mix tapes, a musing about giving up an airline seat, or a short story about a politician's son, Alexie pulls you into each piece with bluntness and humor. I've been meaning to read this book for ages, I don't know why it's taken me so ridiculously long. But when I had a rare moment to actually step over into the adult fiction section in the library, in between talking Solomon down from putting every Go, Diego Go! DVD in the entire system on hold at once, this book jumped out at me.
