This book was... difficult? I don't think I entirely understood it, although I enjoyed the journey. Apparently it was written as a senior project about modal logic, and I don't really know what modal logic is, so... that's a problem.

While Broom manifests lots of trademark DFW qualities, including a wicked sense of humor and massive intelligence, it also reads very much like what it is: a novel written by a 24-yr-old rather unhappy with his MFA program, begun when he was a struggling undegrad. Characters have names like "Candy Mandible" and work in places like "Frequent and Vigorous." There's description after description of female anatomy and a giggling attitude toward drinking and drugs.
