A friend loaned me this book months ago and I figured it was a good companion as I recover from surgery. The only other Tana French book I’ve read was The Witch Elm. I remember the writing in that book as flowery and overly descriptive. That wasn’t the case with this book.
I liked Rob Ryan, neuroses and all. I loved his relationship with Cassie for the first half of the book and was sad to see that go downhill. I liked the two mysteries intertwined and that only one was solved.

Most of the book I would rate 4.5, but I found the ending rushed and unsatisfying. It actually made me angry which I later realized was because I felt really invested in the book. It had felt there were certain questions that would get answered. And those didn’t. I also felt we were left with so much unanswered about the protagonist. I like that he was flawed and realistically broken after his early life experiences. I could accept the mistakes he made because I thought Tana French developed him
