This book came highly recommended to me by a friend... Sadly, it just didn't quite do it for me. At its core, it's a good story and the mechanics of the writing are fine. In my perspective, it just wasn't a tight story-- there's a lot of talk about the weather (constantly reading about just how rainy it is in Ireland), long descriptions of just what pop music Ryan and his partner listen to, just how lovely a cigarette is, and long passages in which the main character tries to justify himself but ...more

Frustrating book IMHO. The relationship between Rob/Adam and Cassie made me want to scream! Cassie - don't do it! Grrr! Never finding out what happened to Jamie and Peter was disappointing. But real life is probably like that. You don't always get to tie up all the loose ends, and men will be men. (Still Rob's man cave is the deepest, darkest one ever!) Even though I wanted Cassie and Rob to live happily ever after, and for the mystery of Jamie and Peter to be resolved....I got something more re ...more

I enjoyed this novel; I wasn't sure what to expect because I don't read a lot of mysteries, but I liked the characters a lot. The mystery itself wasn't that interesting, but the back story for the main detective was fascinating, and that made the whole novel more enjoyable. ...more

Unusually good police procedural novel. The main character becomes overly involved in a case which reflects a traumatic episode from his own life. Very good psychological suspense
