What Members Thought

I'm a little ashamed that I haven't read this book until now. Loved it - especially that even 200+ years later, the themes of love are still very much the same.

Patty Stringer, this is for you.
This was a pure delight. It was delightful. It filled me with delight.
As a fiction librarian (ex-fiction librarian? it made me sad to type that)I had been so inundated with Jane Austen spinoffs that I thought I had developed Austen Allergy syndrome. But Patty is such a ardent fan that I picked it up in her honor. And entered the zone of delight.
The juxtaposition of reading this just after reading Nine Parts of Desire made it even more poignant.

There was no suspense for me, which was too bad. (And I was extremely frustrated that Wickham and Lydia just kept being bratty.)

Jane Austen is not one of my favorite authors. I don't dislike her novels, but they seem silly to me...just so much fluff. I keep trying, though. In this particular comedy of manners, Elizabeth Bennet initially dislikes Mr. Darcy (her prejudice) because of his apparent pride. First impressions are often incorrect, however, as Austen clearly shows us.

I love annotated books. Most of this was very interesting, although I could have lived with fewer definitions. I'd figured those out on my own. Pictures illustrating aspects of the text were neat.
