Steve is 16 years old, loves being in film club at school, and watching superhero shows with his little brother. He is also in jail, accused of murder. To escape the grim reality he faces, Steve recounts the tale of his trial through a movie script.

Excellent book, very quick read. I would recommend this for sure. I loved the ambiguity of the story, and the writing both from Steve's POV, and his distanced view as he sees his trial unfolding like that of a movie. I'm not even sure this does have to be made into a movie (as Myers has said he would like to see) - the film plays out so well in your head as you read it, wouldn't a motion picture of the same simply be redundant? Hmm. I'm giving this 2 stars based on my personal enjoyment of the book, but I do applaud it and think it is a valuable book for teens, and especially could be useful for class discussions of race and poverty and crime.

But as an adult reading it I had trouble getting into it and didn't really like the screenplay/diary format. Shrug!

Had a hard time with the format. It was really interesting and very well written, but I found myself skipping around instead of wanting to read it through. Maybe I'll try it again next week.
