What Members Thought

Entertaining, but kind of a one-trick pony, playing the novel of manners against the gory zombie genre for laughs. Not particularly recommended. Not particularly not. If you're in the mood for jokes on the double meaning of "balls," a fair amount of "discreet vomiting," the Bennet family, bloodlust, an aloof Mr. Darcy, ninjas, carriages, katana swords, and marriage proposals, then there's literally nowhere else to look.

Funny and quite clever in places, particularly the first dinner scene at Rosings where Lady Catherine inquired as to whether the Bennets' ninjas have left them, and you did have to agree with Lizzy when she fantasized about beheading that twit Lydia. It was a cute parody, very fast reading since 80% of PPZ was lifted directly from the Austen original. However, it wasn't so spectacular of a read to spawn Quirk's publication of "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters" or "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire

This book was a quirky, and occasionally hilarious read. It has been a long time since I read the original, but it seemed like a whole lot of the story is here, just with the exciting plot addition of a zombie plague. Interesting to consider how that would have changed that era's preoccupation with manners, class rank, and limited roles for women. A tad gory, but pretty limited for a zombie book. The cover artwork is pretty creepy though!

I enjoyed this. I'm a huge fan of Jane Austen's work, and found it very amusing to see someone take it and have so much fun with it. The basic plot elements are all there, as are the zombies. There are some very interesting new pieces of background for the characters, and some fight scenes as you might imagine. If you're a fan of the original, I'd recommend checking this out. It's a great light read.

80 percent original text and 20 percent ultra violent zombie mayhem. Eh. This book takes many relationship twists and human will that is so wonderfully articulated in the original and uses zombie wars as the reason for why people do the things they do. All human motivation is defined, and that is Austen’s talent. This has promise, but sort of let me down.

I loved the idea of this book. Take a great book and add zombies! I was all set for some light-hearted fun. Too bad the book commits a major no-no. The author actually makes quite a few changes to the plot that have nothing to do with zombies, and let's face it: Jane Austen doesn't need help.
