Wow...super fast read! I could easily have blown through this in a single sitting.
The concept here is undeniably intriguing -- what if Cinderella were a cyborg? Meyer takes the extremely familiar (perhaps overdone) story and transplants it to futuristic Beijing. This is a world where cyborgs and androids are common, but treated as less than human (androids are basically servants, and no one seems to trust cyborgs, even though plenty of people apparently have cyborg parts). This was a very entertaining re-imagining of the fairy tale of Cinderella. Cinder, a cyborg, is an engaging protaganist. She has some of the typical teenage angst, but is mature in many other ways. There is also the Prince, the wicked stepmother, and the two stepsisters (although one is not wicked). The author's writing style as engaging and conversational. There is good depth to the characters and the relationships between the main characters is portrayed in a real-to-life way. We are left with

Talk about fractured fairy tales. I remember when this one came out and everyone was so gaga over it. Now I understand. I was listening to this on audio, but it got so good at the end that I had to get the book so I could finish it. Little bit of a cliffhanger, but I'm ready to go with the next one.

Great re-working of the Cinderella fairy-tale with a strong heroine - 5 stars.
Minus one star, though, for pretty much giving away the entire secret less than 100 pages in. Didn't hurt my wanting to read the whole book (and series), but too many clues all at once. ...more
