i really wasnt sure that i like Celeana but she did grow on me. who says an assassin has to not like fashion? obvious love triangle, but deftly handled, good intrigue, excellent violence... sinister bad guys, unlikeable evil foes, did i mention intrigue? lots of good questions set up for the rest of the series, good pacing... solid fantasy

This series was recommended by a friend. She mentioned that Children of Blood and Bone had a similar premise to this series, and I can see the resemblance but so far I prefer Children. I did love the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Maas though, so I will continue with this one as a beach escapist read. ...more

Shelves: teen, fantasy, 2017, ez-rat

I had a hard time getting into the story, mostly due to the narrator. Since I’ve been told that the series gets a lot better as it progresses, I will pick up the next book – just not in audio format. I gave this title three stars, but it was barely three. I felt like a lot of the story was pulled from bits and pieces of other tales the author had read. Perhaps those were meant to be nods to those stories.
