While I enjoyed the book - it's a great blend of funny and serious with lots of issues to think about while never feeling overwhelming - audiobook was the wrong choice for me at this time. It took me FOREVER to get through. The narration was skilled, but not flashy. Caroline Lee subtly voices the three main characters, Madeline, Jane, and Celeste, so I could tell them apart even though they were not fully voiced. I'm always leery of chick lit, but I needed to read a book with candy on the cover for a BB reading challenge. So glad I picked up this candy-coated book! I'm surprised how much I identified with/wanted to slap most of the characters in this book. The story is murder mystery-ish but really about the dynamic between the mothers of a class of kindergarten students and how they deal with adult romance, bullying, finances, and parenting. Her audio books read by Caroline Lee are the best!
Very satisfying with a classically trashy Dallas-and-Dynasty type plot mixed in with a bit of social commentary, believable character interaction, and generally smart writing. It was quick and easy to read, without being actual fluff.
Fun book. The format (i.e. the way each chapter ended) helped moved the story along, and kept me guessing about the conclusion of the book. Great beach read.
