I definitely recommend procuring the audio book, preferably for free if you are able. It seems like a lot of the complaints about the book are that it's short, and not that funny. Well, the audio version is 5.5 hours of Tina Fey making wisecracks. Disaster averted!
I hope a lot of people read this, to be honest. A lot of Fey's experiences as a woman (professionally and otherwise) sort of remind me of a Judy Blume book dudes could deal with. Though the whole, "I'm not hot! Really!" schtick is gett ...more

I'm not sure how to categorize this book - it's obviously a humor book, but it's part memoir and part essay, and sometimes it purports to be an advice/self-help book (in earlier chapters, giving management advice; in later chapters, focusing on motherhood). It's Tina Fey, so it's particularly well-done humor - most humor writing feels to me like it's trying too hard to be funny, but Bossypants didn't bother me at all on that front. I liked this very much - it was very funny but also had some serious things to say about women in comedy.
I admired her honesty (or what I presume is her honesty) about difficulties breastfeeding and her conflict about having a second child at age 40 - spoiler, she's pregnant with that second child right now.
I liked her thoughts on standards of female beauty but I do wish she wasn't so (amusingly) negative about her own looks.

Best funny audiobook ever. Tina Fey just knocks the whole thing -- writing, reading, performing, self-deprecating -- out of the park. In particular, I loved the last 20 minutes or so about her debate over whether to have a second child seemed so honest and so hilarious and so RIGHT.
And my favorite part, the prayer for her daughter is online... love it. ...more

I think maybe my expectations were too high? I mean, this was funny of course, but I was expecting it to be like... hysterical. I guess. IDK. Also I think by the time I actually got my hands on the book, I'd already read the best bits on the internet.
But still, funny and a lot of great points about feminism and comedy, etc. Hurrah! ...more
