I saw an ad for that new Silo series, and heard a 1 line summary of the books, and thought "huh, that doesn't sound like enough material for a whole book."

Then someone I followed praised the books fulsomely, and they of course cropped up as an audible recommendation, and you know what, I can admit when I'm wrong. This is some very nice storytelling. I've moved right along to the second book.

It's probably closer to a 3.5; solid science fiction with good characters, but nothing that great for my taste. Good, solid world building though. ...more

I really liked this collection-turned-book-- especially the first couple of stories. I enjoyed seeing Howey's dystopian vision unfold, but was a bit chagrined by weak characterization of the major protagonist and her love interest. I am not a big sci-fi reader, but I do understand that characterization is not a priority in the genre. I'm sure I will try out the first of the sequels to see if it keeps my interest. ...more

This in an incredibly well written and well constructed dystopian novel. The characters were appealing and good, (unpleasant and unlikable characters are one of my most common reasons for putting aside a well rated sci-fi novel). While some of my concerns with the plot were never addressed, the compelling, exiting story and overall feeling of hope for the characters won me over and I am eager for the next installment.

Great dystopian sci-fi novel... But that being said I think I need to stay away from the genre 'cause as much as I like it it starts to all blend together and seem too similar. Again, this was very good but I kept thinking oh yeah this is like what happened in this movie or this book... (This isn't going to keep me from requesting the next set in the series). ...more
