A complete adorable and wonderful epilogue to the Neanderthal Seeks Human.

Ms Reid has acted upon all the negative reviews and comments (which I confess am one of them) regarding Quinn and his treatment of Janie and gave a wonderful insight in the way he acts towards Janie, her friends, his misplaced chivalry, his over-protectiveness and his stifling possessiveness...

I think I might have liked this one even more than its predecessor, which is odd, considering I usually am not a fan of reading about couples who are already together. It's just that Janie and Quinn are SO. FREAKING. CUTE! I began to suspect while reading that I could read a novel about the two of them sitting around and reading a phone book and Penny Reid would still make it adorable. I may have even liked this one more than the first one, if that can be believed, mostly because Janie and Quinn I think I might have liked this one even more than its predecessor, which is odd, considering I usually am not a fan of reading about couples who are already together. It's just that Janie and Quinn are SO. FREAKING. CUTE! I began to suspect while reading that I could read a novel about the two of them sitting around and reading a phone book and Penny Reid would still make it adorable. I may have even liked this one more than the first one, if that can be believed, mostly because Janie and Quinn were more sure of their relationship and each other this time around. Plus, we also got Quinn's perspective on several matters and that helped flesh him out as a character.

The book is in no way a standalone. If you haven't read "Neanderthal Seeks Human," don't even pick this one up (well, you should still totally pick this one up, just get that the first one at the same time and read it first) because this one does not re-tread over much territory. You are expected to know the characters at this point, as much of their backstories as were revealed in NSH, and be aware of the events such as Quinn saving Janie from being drugged and date-raped at a club and his penchant for wooing her with corny and/or science-themed jokes. NMH takes off pretty much from the epilogue of NSH, where Quinn had announced to Elizabeth his intent to marry Janie. Janie's quirky curiosity inevitably causes her to muck up the engagement and in her own Janie way she insists on a big wedding that neither of them wants so that they can "test" their relationship (it makes sense in a Janie way). Incredibly, Quinn agrees because he's just that awesome. Along the way, not only do we find out more about Quinn and his his history than we did in the first book, but we also find out about the private accounts that were so secret in the first book and even meet one of his ex-slamps. We basically get a much more fleshed out story than we did the first time when we only got Janie's point of view (which isn't a bad thing -- I adore Janie's point of view, but she does tend to have a rather myopic view of the world which can make it difficult to ascertain what's going on around her). I also enjoyed getting to know the knitting group a little better, since in the first book, with the exception of Elizabeth, they didn't seem to have their own defined personalities yet.

One thing I should mention: while NSH had a "fade to black" quality to its love scenes, this one does not (or at least not on all of them). We actually got the smexy times with Quinn and Janie a couple of times. Personally, I am not a huge stickler either way, as long as the story flows, and when reading the first book, I thought it was a bit jarring that we weren't getting the smexy times because Quinn just seemed so freakin' sexual, so for me, this worked better -- although I would by no stretch of the imagination classify this one as erotica, smexy times or no.

As much as I smiled in NSH, I actually laughed out loud several times in this one. I'd recommend NMH to anyone who has read NSH and I'd recommend NSH to anyone and everyone who enjoys romances and is in the mood for a bit of a change from the usual romantic storylines and characters. This book even got me excited about Elizabeth and Nico's story, which, based on what I'd read on the the back blurb of "Friends Without Benefits", I was thinking about skipping. How can I not want to read about Nico now? The man speaks Italian for God's sake. And the things he says are just. So. Perfect! Anyway, I have a library book to finish first, but I can't wait to read FW/oB ...more

You know you love a book when you want everyone you know to read it so you can laugh at all the funny parts together. I loved this book. I think I enjoyed the first one a little more but just because it was new and exciting. This book was just as enjoyable and funny. A sweet ending always warms my heart. Now I am on to ready Penny's next book. ...more

What did I think? Hmmmm...I truly love this set of books! This one was full of emotion, rather than the usual hot sexiness...well OK, there was that as well...;o) Quinn's parents turned out to be lovely people, which I didn't expect. Kind of made this book have a softer feel, different in a way than book #1.
Moving on to book #2 will be interesting, because it looks like it doesn't center around Janie & Quinn. ...more
