I've seen the movie and didn't like it; it felt like there was no plot and things just happened; none of the characters were really engaging, and I was left with the impression that Danny was mentally handicapped. Imagine my surprise when the actual book has a rich plot and vivid characters. It's a bad thing when the Simpsons adaption is more faithful and accurate than the famous movie.
