I don't feel as if this book is a rip off of Lord of the Rings (or rather, The Hobbit with its dwarf story line) as some commenters have said. If it's a rip off of anything it would be the Wheel of Time series, as I saw MANY more similarities with the first few books of that series then LoTR. However, I don't think this book is a rip off of well known fantasy series. What to do with an antagonist with no weaknesses? I thought it was something that I had always wanted, but now that I have I just want things back the way they were...

I almost stopped reading this book 3/4 of the way through. I won't be reading the sequels.
