whoa that was epic. tempted to go with the full 5 stars here. a book club pick with so much to discuss! spoilers---would Walter have fallen in love with Lalitha had Patty not had the affair with Richard? (why is "lalitha" so similar to "Lolita"?)
why is Walter so gosh darn good? but is he really? why don't we see more of Jessica? Is it wrong that I kind of like patty?

Have you ever had someone tell you a really long and boring story … then right in the middle of their painful monologue they say something interesting and you listen for awhile only to be lulled back in the most painful never ending story … that was this book. For whatever reason, I could not give up on this book – I really hoped it would pull together in the end. True to the novel – it was terrible.
After being drawn into the complex family relationships, I began to feel that this family was hopelessly dysfunctional. But Franzen shows how dynamic real people are; Walter, Carol, Katz and Joey continue to evolve.
This was a very interesting book. Very graphic to the point of being offensive at times, but incredibly sweet and tender at times as well. Definitely would not recommend to everyone.
