Hmmmm...where to begin. I do enjoy the occasional mystery...including Agatha Christie. And this novel starts with the impression that it was right in the Christie style...even the settings in Egypt. But about midway, I realized I wasn't enjoying this. In a nutshell... the story has one English heiress rescue another prospective English heiress in Italy and takes her along on her trip to Egypt. This book made me laugh out loud several times, but that's not the only reason I loved it! It also introduced me to Amelia Peabody, no-nonsense lady archaeologist-doctor and resident badass, whose travels through Egypt are full of interesting characters and settings.I enjoyed the mystery, the historical setting and the descriptions of the country at that time. Imagine being able to investigate pyramids and tombs with no guide.
