Shelves: literary-explor-2015-hard-challenge

I went into this book blindly. I specifically tried not to read the reviews because I wanted to find out exactly why a 10 year girl is locked up in a cell waiting to be collected for class. Wow was I underprepared.

Without giving anything away, it IS a story about a little girl locked in cell but it also a story about her innocence, her relationship with her teacher and the interactions that she has with a few others. This is a book that will play on your emotions and leave you wondering just wh ...more

The negative first I think: because the story is so incredibly fictional, it's hard for me to picture the events and setting. I can't picture zombie children with spores of fungus growing out of them like trees. I can't get a clear picture of the giant Rosie in my head. I can't see the wall of fungus or the completely obliterated post-apocalyptic London in all its dystopian glory. But then again -- and this is a positive -- maybe it's best that I did ...more

Interesting and thought provoking. I enjoyed this one more than expected. Melanie is a wonderful character. So many layers to explore! I will think through this one for some time to come and that is a compliment.
