Shelves: classics, reviewed
Despite finding that every single character landed, most of the time, somewhere on the scale from "not very sympathetic" to "despicable", I also found that I did really like this novel. The narrative choice — story within a story, i.e. the frame narrative device — felt questionable at times, but it did work, and did not take away from the reading experience. In any significant fashion, anyway.

...totally not what I was expecting :) have no idea why but I was expecting a "blah" kind of thing, with the long (and somewhat painful to read) descriptions of a broken heart, some "shivers" of feelings, etc. what I found though was totally enthralling story about how love and hate can bring out wicked characters in some people, how blinding those can be... if anything - I find the ending a bit too "calm" for the whole story, as if the author exhausted herself enough and thought had to end some ...more
