Fantastic audiobook! This is a case where the narrator makes a good book awesome & really brings it to life. Ray Porter was wonderful, his tone, inflection & accents were perfection.... made the listening experience really special.

I'm a little embarrassed to say how much I enjoyed this book. I avoided it for years because I couldn't care less about football or football fans and I really thought that had more to do with the plot than it actually did. I finally picked it up because one of my reading challenges required me to read something set in my state (NJ) and for those who have only seen the movie know that the book takes place in Collingswood, NJ.
I have not seen the film. I did notice that MANY reviewers seem to like

If a movie is based on a book, I usually read the book first. I was unaware of this novel until I saw the movie version, so it was an atypical experience to read after seeing the movie.

The book has a darker, more serious tone than the movie. There are enough differences between this and the movie version that it was still a good read. The main character's emotional struggles are perhaps more meaningful in the book, since these elements were played for laughs in the movie. I couldn't help but co

This was a really awesome light read. Under most circumstances the story would have earned a 5 star rating for a well written and beautiful story but in the last 3/4 it got a little predictable but the ending was perfect and I don't regret the sleep I lost finishing this.

"Life is hard, Pat, and children have to be told how hard life can be."
"Why?"
"So they can be sympathetic to others. So they will understand that some people have it harder than they do and that a trip through this world can be a wildly different experience, depending on what chemicals are raging through one's mind."

I read this as the third and final book for my challenge this year of a book that was later translated to film.

After watching the movie and reading the book,I can't decide which one is better. It's as if the characters and the story in the movie and in the book are slightly different. The movie is sweet, light, funny, romantic and the book is more serious.

I find it a pity that some characters in the book don't appear in the movie. I like the book because it's an easy, quick reading and you easily get into the head of the main character.

Loved this book! I dont usually give 5-star ratings, esp to an author's first work, but this is just such a great story. it's funny and painful and heartwarming.... No movie for me though. It's too good in my head to take the chance that Jennifer Lawrence will ruin it. LOL ...more
