Gran libro de King. Pensé que tener un libro tan grande iba a aburrirme o a ser un poco tedioso en muchas partes, pero no, está bien estructurado y no le sobran capítulos. Tiene bien manejado el suspenso cambiando entre "presente" y pasado la historia para ir descubriendo poco a poco todo.

From reading other reviews, I feel that people either love or hate this book. I put off reading It because of my heightened aversion to clowns, and dark beings that take shape of your fears and such things. But my friend said that I should read it, and so I took on the challenge.

This book is long. Not only is it long, it is full of non-interesting little tid-bits that King tends to do in some of his books. Ramble on and on. That is really the biggest dislike I have of King's writing.

However, this book both fascinated and repulsed me. The way King brought child fears to life is terrifying and awesome. I found myself unable to look away when faced with the most grotesque pieces (leeches anyone?). I will admit that I had trouble sleeping the entire time I read this book. I constantly thought about it.

The themes are ingenious. Fears faced and fought during childhood and yet the whole ordeal is forgotten as adults. Derry, the hub of evil. I read Derry's history with amazement and horror, the pattern of murders that start, climax and fade, the telltale occurrences of large tragedies that both start the pattern and end it. And throughout the history, that damn clown that people see everywhere but pay no real mind to.

The intertwining themes of fear and children growing up and losing their innocence, becoming adults is so masterful. I was unenthusiastic when King got really mystical with where It really came from and the Turtle vomiting up the earth, I felt that it was overkill (unless I missed something completely during that whole revelation). Beverly's little...ahem... fling with the boys near the end really threw me off and nauseated me, but I suppose King had his reasons. I will definitely re-read this to get better clarity, but I thought it was just a hell of a read.

By the way, does anyone else love King's random but subtle allusions to characters and instances from his other books? If so, definitely check out "11-22-63", and tell me that you don't absolutely LOVE the parallel. ...more
