This was not an easy read, and at first I made unfavorable comparisons to Fingersmith, my favorite Waters novel. However, I began to feel that Waters paid attention to context and detail in a way that made a lot of sense, when writing about the emotionally complicated characters and their behavior and actions, which to me rose naturally from character and context. SPOILER ALERT!!!

I first heard about this book on NPR, and I couldn't wait to read it. I waited over 3 months on the Library's waiting list until my turn finally came. I read it in 2 day's time.

I liked the love story right up until it became a murder thriller. The anxiety produced throughout the trial exhausted me. I didn't really know I was getting into a murder story.
