Has Atwood ever written drivel? Crap? Even just a horrible sentence?
Not that I have found yet.
The Blind Assassin is a letter to an estranged (stolen?) granddaughter. Within it is the back story of an affair, and yet you aren't sure between who. Within it is also the novel written by Laura, the sister who drove herself off a bridge after finding the truth about her sister.

A terrific story with elements that reminded me of Grey Gardens and TItanic (don't let that stop you from reading it though - ;) ). Thoroughly enjoyable and wonderfully written.
