The midwinter holiday on Discworld is Hogswatch rather than Christmas, and the Hogfather is the Discworld's counterpart of Santa Claus. In Hogfather we get to see Discworlds version of Christmas, Hogswatch. But Hogfather is missing, children of the disc believe in him, he is their version of santa and because they believe in him he exists so what will happen now to Hogswatch?.This is when Death has to step in, don the suit and take control of the hog driven sleigh.
This book is so clever, it humorously challenges belief, traditions and expectations through fantasy.

Hogfather draws up a character sketch of Death more beautifully than any other book, except perhaps Reaper Man. Near the end of the book, I kept losing myself in a dream of sitting by the fireside in plush comfortable chair, with him seated in the self-same way on the opposite side talking to me about humanity and baffling me with his probing questions and insights.
