Eleanor Oliphant is by turns sad, dark, hilarious, depressing, amusing and excruciatingly embarrassing. It made me laugh out loud more than once and the bikini waxing scene alone is totally worth the price of admission! The story goes to some pretty dark places including child abuse and suicide so it's not all laughs and sunshine. Great fiction. If you liked Britt-Marie Was Here and/or The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry you will love this one. I am impressed with Honeyman's writing style and her characters. Walking through Eleanor's childhood memories with her is very painful. Eleanor has been surviving life not living it and she spends this book learning to live a little. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine is an easy novel to see why it is popular as it is a very accessible read to explore mental health. Eleanor Oliphant struggles in life at 30 years old where she works five days a week in an office and treats herself to frozen pizza and vodka on the weekends. She does the same routine every day and week, including her phone chats with Mummy. Her story is divided into three parts: Good Days, Bad Days, and Better Days.
