The Poet is back! It's been years but he's resurfaced by leaving a note for FBI Agent Rachel Walling. She's called into a new task force as an "observer" since she's still banished to undesirable outposts because of what happened during the original investigation. Meanwhile, Harry Bosch is asked to look into the death of a friend who appeared to die from natural causes. But, it doesn't take long for his investigation to intersect with the FBI's task force.

Another intriguing read in the world of Harry Bosch! Every single detail is important - you can be sure of that. Connelly is methodical as he lays the groundwork and progresses through each story - no detail is left hanging in the wind. As with some of the other books, it seemed to take awhile for the action to pick up, but having said that, there are no wasted words in this book. Each and every one of them serve a purpose in the set up and execution of the story. The second half of the book is ...more

I know I had not read this one before and it felt fresh and new. I liked that Harry was back in the thick of things and stirring up trouble. This had a lot of action and even a serial killer thrown in. I could see why Graciela came to him to discover what happened. This was a very interesting change of pace for Bosch. I also like it that there is a possibility of him going back to do unsolved murders in the next book. Things could change though, because I liked how Michael Connelly left it hangi ...more

This was just okay for me. I read the novels referred in here a while ago so I didn't really remember the Poet and therefore wasn't invested. This novel also emphasized how Michael Connelly just can't do a decent female character for the life of him. All of the prominent female characters sounded exactly alike! But the story did move along fairly well but it just wasn't as good as the previous one. ...more
