What Members Thought

Amos Decker is on his way to Washington, D. C. to join an FBI special task force headed by Ross Bogart. They'll be investigating cold and questionable cases. When he hears a news report about a former college football star who was on death row for murdering his parents and just escaped execution when someone suddenly confessed to the crime, it's no surprise that Decker wants this to be the first project of the task force.

Even better then the first!! I love me some Amos!! So excited that this is a series.. Really well written with awesome people. Can’t say much about the specific case because I don’t want to give anything away.. But its refreshing to have a good guy everyone (mostly) respects. I like the underdog as much as anyone but it’s just a nice change to not have to spend time fighting “the system” every step of the way. The twists & turns the case take are thrilling, & most importantly (to me) it feels au

Amos Decker is back and ready to join the FBI special task force and solve some cold cases. As soon as Amos hears about the Melvin Mars case - which is eerily similar to his family's murder and Mars played college football too - he can't help but get focused on finding out the truth. Melvin Mars has been in prison for twenty years convicted of murdering his parents. Just days away from parole another man on death row confesses to killing Roy and Lu ...more

Amos Decker is a very unique detective with his memory which cannot forget anything. Baldacci's writing is excellent and the plot does not disappoint. There are a lot of twists and turns which make for a page-turner that doesn't stop until the very last page. The novel is very entertaining and the characters are believable. I listened to the audio and never got bored as I found the story interesting. I look forward to the next installment in this series and recommend this book to those who like

You have to like Decker with his ability to remember absolutely everything and seeing some things in colour, being seriously overweight and so very, very thorough. Driving to his new job, he hears over the radio of a convict being released from Death Row by an admission from another murderer. This intrigues him and he somehow manages to persuade the newly formed investigative team of which he is part, to investigate something of this sudden change of fortune for a former prospective NFL star.

I am giving this 4.5 stars out of 5. There were a bunch of editing errors in this book and it really detracts from the book for me. Words were missing and other things. I am cursed like Amos, as I read every word and when one is missing it messes me up.
I love Amos and this story had a bunch of twists and turns. Some I wasn't expecting and some that I was. It was a book that you didn't want to put down as the action was pretty much non-stop. I especially liked the new character introduced in this ...more

4.5 stars, raising to 5 stars.
Amos Decker is a wonderfully-written character. The ensemble cast took me a while to learn (especially the FBI names) and there was a bit of slowness in the middle, but that probably reflects a real investigation.
The man on death row/former football star, Melvin Mars, is memorable. I hope we see him again in these books.
The tie to 1960s racist events in the South brought back memories for me; I lived through those years and they were not so pretty.... Baldacci has d ...more
