Very good book about Phineas Finn, an Irish lad who finds him elected to serve in the British Parliament. The story is a mix of the political innerworkings of Parliament (and how Phineas learns to maneuver his way through his tenure as a House of Commons representative) and Phineas' love life, the latter of which has different impacts on Phineas' political career.

This book doesn't get off to a promising start. You may think to yourself, do I really want to read (a lot) about the internal workings of British Parliament during the 1860s? Rest assured Trollope fans, the story gets more interesting as it goes along. It features an interesting cast of female characters who, by virtue of the times, are not able to play a public role in politics, but who very competently maneuver behind the scenes.
