What Members Thought

I wasn't sure what to expect in this play about two married couples (both with husbands who are college professors) and a night of drinking. Seems alcohol brings out the worse in all of them; George & Martha, the older of the two couples and Nick & Honey, the younger and more innocent couple. As described on another website, this one is similar to watching an episode of Jerry Springer. (Or Dr. Phil, Maury, etc).

"Dashed hopes and good intentions. Good, better, best, bested."
This is a play written in 1960's and it's provocative, smart, and very edgy for the times. It lays bare the relationships between husbands and wives, parents and children in a very tense and emotionally captivating way. One might be afraid of Virginia Woolf because she tries to understand the human mind and heart. She is so honest and this can be frightening to face. Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Who’s afraid to face the truth?
Who’s afraid to face the crowd?

I'm giving it 4 stars because I really want to. It's more like a 3.5 but only because I feel like I still kind of don't 100% get it. It's so good though, and if you have not seen the movie adaptation with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, GO WATCH IT! They are the perfect couple for the main characters. They probably had to barely act. The dialogue and the back and forth of the story is just wonderful though and it kind of makes me want to check out more Edward Albee.

Awkward to the extreme, sad and depressing and oddly entertaining. You'd definitely have to see it or read it to fully understand what I mean, but it definitely packed a punch. Most of the time reading it I was thinking to myself "What the heck are these people doing?" but I suppose it's just all part of their "fun and games"

This book was not my cup of tea. It's an absurdist drama and I am trying to wrap my head around the themes. I want to know what everything means... it was an interesting play, just not a favourite of mine.

Guess I'm a literary dud on this one, because I just didn't get it. Strange and awkward, but boring. It's probably better on stage, but...meh.
