It starts out with a great premise: what if you could remain youthful and vibrant while a portrait of yourself took the toll of age and sin? It seemed very interesting. But the story really drags on with unnecessary details with only small points that actually seem to relate to the true story. Lord Harry seems to go on and on in his flowery and very boring speeches. I expected to enjoy this more than I did. None of the characters are sympathetic and some of the passages are a bit laborious. The story is so ingrained in literary culture that it's hard to experience the book on its own merits. If anything I feel like Lord Henry is the real villain and Dorian is merely weak willed and easily influenced. Glad to have reread but not a favourite.
