The book has an amazing world building, but the descriptions sometimes were (imo) unnecessarily long and confusing (therefore, I'd recommend reading this book after you watched the movie DUNE by Denis Villeneuve. It made so much more sense to me after that.) Instead some fighting scenes and dialogues could’ve been longer and I would’ve loved to read more about certain characters, especially from Chanis POV. Dune is one of those creatively exceptional books with awesome world building and lore . It had well established the standards of modern Sci-fi sagas and is a classic indeed with its literary contributions to the genre .
This is that unique book for me which , with its creatures , Geography , Characters , Events and their causes , Lores & cultures represented their in feels like a living and breathing ecosystem with its own laws governing itself , though it is about Arrakis the Desert planet yet Dune is one of those creatively exceptional books with awesome world building and lore . It had well established the standards of modern Sci-fi sagas and is a classic indeed with its literary contributions to the genre .
This is that unique book for me which , with its creatures , Geography , Characters , Events and their causes , Lores & cultures represented their in feels like a living and breathing ecosystem with its own laws governing itself , though it is about Arrakis the Desert planet yet it feels as if I am reading a living organism , bravo to the author and his writing style.
The story revolves around a family of Duke of Atreides who are incharged with administering the planet of Arrakis , known for its 'spice' reserves and huge gigantic Earthworms called Makers and sandstorms that scrape metal from structures .
The Duke moves to the Desert planet with his son Paul and concubine Jessica being aware of the conspiracy and trap that awaits him .
The characters are very well represented and built up as the story progresses , I loved how the author has represented marriage and love , their social implications , representations and importance of tradition among societies and how they vary from one to the next .
The author has shown the true meaning of religion and how improvisation is a necessary tool to maintain it being progressive , how it can show hope when there is none. He has also highlighted the thin line between a true Messiah and a Fanatic , he has forced the readers to judge this for themselves while acquainting them with the knowledge and ideologies /motivations behind their actions .
The author has also represented the true potential and hidden attributes within the most oppressed people in the society and has successfully shown it becoming their greatest weapon against the oppressors .
He has implied adaptation and evolution as a key not just to survival but to progress and ascension as well .The world is as cruel as it gets where everyone is either hunter or prey , he shows how only the strong always survive and why even their deaths are necessary to pave way for the next generation.
I'd have written a lot more but I don't wanna spoil so go ahead and give it a read . ...more
