I love Preston & Child, I really do. Aloysius Pendergast is probably my favorite fictional character next to Sherlock Holmes, but this installment in the Pendergast series felt somehow...diminished. Rushed. Cold. I'm not sure why I'm left with these feelings of being underwhelmed, but I'm altogether saddened by them. I must first disclose that I am an unabashed fan of Preston & Child, and especially their Pendergast series. I've been with them from Book 1 (Relic) of the series and have read all 17 books, Therefore, it is with some trepidation that I write this review because I know it won't be popular with some fans.

A new Pendergast book is always a good read but the last few entries in the series have felt somewhat lackluster. This one particular felt as if it had less mystery and more action. The side characters are all somehow less interesting than before and you don't quite get as invested in them. Perhaps a result of the series aging.

Another great Pendergast/D'Agosta book. I loved the ending.
