My response to this book fluctuated. There were many stretches where the endless narrative would fail to hold my interest, and I would get distracted every half-page. Then there were many moments where I was breathlessly caught in the drama and the pages flew by. I congratulated myself on identifying the antagonists well ahead of the reveal, but found myself quite surprised by the twists it took to get there.

When he is 10. his father takes Daniel to a most unusual library in Barcelona: the Cemetery of Forgotten Books (where forgotten books or forgotten authors are kept). Daniel picks a book, takes it home and reads it, and wants to know everything about it's author (Julian Carax). Daniel starts looking for information about Julian, and gets numerous half-stories. I enjoyed the book. It took a while, even though I was enjoying it, sometimes I had a hard time picking it up again. I also did not like the way the women in the book were portrayed. They really had nothing to do with the plot or story line.
