Anyone who knows me knows that morally grey characters and anti-heros are my fucking jam, and so I've had this book recommended to me various times. It was finally time that I pick it up, and oh boy.
I loved the storyline - it was so fresh and original. I thought the characters were freaking amazing. The link between the manner of death and the EO's (ExtaOrdinary) powers was absolutely fascinating, and I certainly hope its played with further in the next installment. ...more

4.5 stars!!!
"Plenty of humans were monstrous, and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human."
I love the writing style. I love the story. I love the twisted characters! Definitely an auto-buy author! ...more

This book is incredible! It is filled with a motley crew of interesting characters you can't help but love. The multiple view points creates empathy for every character and makes the reader consider who is really the villain. Schwab is quickly becoming my favorite author, she can do no wrong!

Intriguing, cinematic in pace, 3.5 stars
I'm all about moral ambiguity and I loved this tale of - to my mind - an anti hero against a villain. A morally grey man against a zealot. I have an array of thoughts on Eli and Victor, and I like that Schwab did her best to make me question what I considered acts of evil to be and what defines a person as such. Most of all, I loved the ending. I loved that ending. I really, really did. ...more

I think that telling you too much about the plot of this book might easily ruin it for you, so all I’m going to say is this. There are two main characters, Victor and Eli. In college, they were best friends. Now they are each other’s nemesis. How that came to pass, what happened in the ten years separating the past and present and who else gets dragged into this fight.. Well, you’ll have to find out for yourselves.

Whoosh that was an intense book! It truly lived up to its name! Everything about it was vicious! Every character was flawed and you find yourself just routing for whoever you think is the least evil. If you want a book that is all sorts of twisted give this one a try because I'm still reeling from it!

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I can certainly understand why it's such a well-loved book. The concept around superheroes/anti heroes is very interesting, especially because it's done in a untraditional way. Then you also have the question of who is the bad/good guy and how do you determine that they are good or bad.
The plot was solid and paced quite well. I liked the build of intensity using time. The characters were complex enough so I wasn't feeling detached.

Who wouldn't want a superpower?? Would love to fly, save on air ticket prices :p (The near death experience would suck tho, since according to the story I would probably have to get tossed off a building and wish I could fly :p)
Entertaining to the end, would love a sequel (and I don't say that a lot). ...more
