What Members Thought
I loved this one. Although many feel it starts off slow I loved the slow pacing, getting the feel of the situation and life of the MC and the 'paying guests'. I love the writing and it sucked me in. Sarah Waters is a master at her craft. The second half bumps up the action but it doesn't become a page turner, still a wonderfully written, slower paced story. The action is more within the psychology of the players.

I "listened" to this book and found I had a different experience than those who read it. I liked the story, the intrigue, the characters, etc... Although I felt part three dragged on a bit and was unnecessary chronicled, those that read the book were overwhelmed with the slow pace and excessive detail. On the contrary, the audiobook allowed me to picture the scenes and situations very clearly due to the detail throughout; I appreciated it.
