Ok so this was a very firm, gave Jessica all the feelings, assaulted my whole heart level of five stars. Like seriously solid five stars.
This book built the world just enough that I could picture it perfectly while not bogging down the story with to many details. The tale, even when it was only traveling was never boring. We get to see this world through the eyes of two people and therefore get to see the very different perspectives throughout.

The Gist
Actually, I’m going to start off right away with the verdict: I absolutely loved Dark Shores.
I have loved Jensen’s writing ever since The Malediction Trilogy was published beginning back in 2014. Then in 2018 The Bridge Kingdom came out, which I was unable to find a copy of for some mysterious reason. So, I never had a chance to read it and for a few years I lost track of Jensen’s published works.

Dark shores was an enjoyable read that has some of the aspects I love in a fantasy, however, I also had a fair share of confusion while reading this.
The title suggests that the story would be about adventure and travel and I would have appreciated the world building better if only a map was provided. One could easily get lost in the amount of places, cities and towns that are mentioned in addition to the number of characters presented in this diverse world inspired by the Roman Empire. And while ...more

Amazing!
Dark Shores was an amazing book! I can't believe I waited this long to read it. The concept was so original the same as all of Jensen's books. The world building was perfect. Not too little and not too much. The characters and friendships were by far my favorite part of the book. I loved both our main characters Marcus and Teriana and their relationship, but the side characters and their relationships and friendships were equally wonderful. I can't wait for the next book! ...more

Danielle Jensen always impresses me with her story and writing craft. In Dark Shores, the characters are flawed but easy to connect with and care about. It is easy to see the motives behind their decisions. Although Dark Shores is clearly a fictional world inspired by the Roman Empire, Jensen has created a unique world of magic. The plot is driven on Teriana's mistake, Marcus's secret, and Cassius's hunger for power. As in all Danielle Jensen books, there is a slow-burning romantic sub plot that
