I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan-Tor/Forge for the advanced reading copy of Dark Shores by Danielle L. Jensen. I can't wait to start this book.
Before Reading:
I have read Danielle’s Malediction trilogy and loved it so much (it is one of my favourite trilogy’s of all time). That combined with the concept of this book I knew I had to get my hands on it immediately.

The Gist
Actually, I’m going to start off right away with the verdict: I absolutely loved Dark Shores.
I have loved Jensen’s writing ever since The Malediction Trilogy was published beginning back in 2014. Then in 2018 The Bridge Kingdom came out, which I was unable to find a copy of for some mysterious reason. So, I never had a chance to read it and for a few years I lost track of Jensen’s published works.
Until I saw Dark Shores pop up on NetGalley. Giddy like a schoolgirl, I requested a copy to ...more

This book was such an fantastic adventure. You have sea dragons, meddling deities, slowest of burns in the romance department and a lush world. What more could a girl ask for? Plus I absolutely loved that the focus went beyond the physical brutality of war but looked at the minds, manipulation and psychological warfare that wins battles. Marcus was brilliant and Teriana was smart, stubborn and intriguing. Just note it's not as pirate focused as you may assume. Can't wait to dive in further!

Dark shores was an enjoyable read that has some of the aspects I love in a fantasy, however, I also had a fair share of confusion while reading this.
The title suggests that the story would be about adventure and travel and I would have appreciated the world building better if only a map was provided. One could easily get lost in the amount of places, cities and towns that are mentioned in addition to the number of characters presented in this diverse world inspired by the Roman Empire. Author Danielle L. Jensen has another fun, entertaining novel on her hands with Dark Shores. With a kick-ass female pirate as the main character, and a universe inspired by the Roman Empire, this novel is a fantastic action adventure story that explores the complexities of imperialism. Would you sell out your people to protect the ones you love? Are invading soldiers any freer than those they conquer? This was a page-turner!

Danielle Jensen always impresses me with her story and writing craft. In Dark Shores, the characters are flawed but easy to connect with and care about. It is easy to see the motives behind their decisions. Although Dark Shores is clearly a fictional world inspired by the Roman Empire, Jensen has created a unique world of magic. The plot is driven on Teriana's mistake, Marcus's secret, and Cassius's hunger for power. As in all Danielle Jensen books, there is a slow-burning romantic sub plot that
