Layla tries to fit in even though she knows deep down, she’s still half demon. Wardens kill demons. She has had a massive crush on Zayne, who has been nothing but sweet and a best friend to Layla since she arrived.

Now able to go to school like a normal teenager, she is confronted with the last thing she was never hoping to have contact with… A demon. But this isn’t just any demon… It’s Roth… Swoon-worthy, tattooed, extremely sexy, Roth. But, trusting Roth could mean losing Zayne and her family that she has been so close with for so long.

I was a little nervous about reading a series about gargoyles.. I’ve never come across a book about gargoyles! Ever! So I was a little nervous going into it. I’m really glad I read the novella before picking this up, it really helped explain some things.

Guys, I can’t stress how much I love Jennifer L. Armentrout and the stories she writes! She’s seriously the Queen of Swoon-Worthy Men. Not joking. I haven’t read a book by her yet that doesn’t have a swoon-worthy character… Roth? Check. Daemon? Check. Kyler? Check. Zayne? Check.

Everything about this book was fantastic. The writing was– as always– fantastic. The characters were stunning. The world building was absolutely fantastic! I really wanted a continuation of Dez and Jasmine’s story, but I can definitely settle (not a very good word choice) with Layla’s story because it was absolutely amazing.

I loved Layla! She was such an awesome character. At times, she would start to get annoying, but then I would understand why she was acting the way she did. Roth was wow. Words can’t even describe him. I mean really!? He’s a DEMON. Your supposed to hate him. Ohh wait, not to mention he’s an Upper Level demon. So double hate. Nope. Complete opposite!!

Zayne was adorable, but I would rather go for Roth. He bugged me at one part in the story for a big reason which I can’t say.

But, I have to wait until the end of October to read Stone Cold Touch?! Not cool. ...more

my goodness this is literally my first Jennifer L. Armentrout book EVER and I loved it. I fell in love with her writing and it makes me excited and not regret ordering obsidian before even reading this. I will highly recommend this book even tho I was highly skeptical of this book and what it involved in the ended a loved the freshness of it and how this is the first gargoyles book I've had the lucky chance of reading. Layla was not badass but that was okay, she was not perfect and that ...more

You know what I love? When an author shows me again and again why I love their work and why I can trust them. Armentrout is pretty much on my "forever buy" list. I remember when the news about this new, exciting series came out and I was so happy. I mean, GARGOYLES. I've never read anything with gargoyles and the only time I saw gargoyles and liked them was in the animated series Gargoyles. I'm ignoring the funny companions in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I wanted hot gargoyles.

I loved White Hot You know what I love? When an author shows me again and again why I love their work and why I can trust them. Armentrout is pretty much on my "forever buy" list. I loved White Hot Kiss. It definitely wasn't what I expected, at least not based on the prequel, Bitter Sweet Love. I can always trust Armentrout to write sassy, funny characters. Just as I can trust her to write creepy bad guys. The other thing that I can trust about her is that she'll write about "good" guys that are rotten to the core and "bad" guys who can make the right thing. I love that. I hate it when the guys on Team Evil are always bad and same goes for Team Good.

Layla was an interesting character. She was sheltered growing up, but what really made me love her was her struggle with her self image. She was brought up to hate the "bad" half of her, as if somehow she was responsible for who her parents were. I really wanted to punch some of the people in her family (if I dare call some of them that). I don't know if she's more reckless at times or more brave than anyone around her thinks, but I do like that she stands up for herself when she needs to. And I like that by the end of the book she's starting to accept that part of her that everyone fears. Not completely, but a little each day is all that matters, right?

Zayne is the boy our heroine grew up with. She's kind of in love with and he really doesn't notice her. At all. And that part kind of pissed me off. Let's be honest here, how blind do you have to be to not notice that this girl has a crush on you? It wasn't as if she was that great at hiding it.

Which brings me to Roth. Oh man. I am obsessed with him. The one thing that I absolutely love him for is that, unlike Zayne, he accepted her other half (in this case, her Warden half). He didn't make her feel like she was at fault for her parents' relationship, just like he didn't make her seem like a freak for being able to suck someones soul out. Of course, I will be honest and say that I was kind of weary of him at first. Yes, he was hot, really dangerous, flirty and a smart-ass, but at the beginning I was expecting for him to show his colors so to speak. He was a demon, so he had to be one of the bad guys. But then he does something for her, something that completely blew my mind and made me realize he really wasn't the enemy here. Which is probably why the ending crushed me so much. Oh, and let's not forget about the tattoos, shall we? He has awesome tattoos. And great names for both of them.. *swoon*

The ending blew me away and made me want to curl up in bed and cry. I did not see that one coming. I am sad that this is only a trilogy. Of course, you might wonder how many times can the world be in danger in this series, but I am so not ready for "The End". Anyway, this book was amazing and I really am keeping my fingers crossed for my boy Roth to win the girl. ...more

This book was very original, I loved the demon and gargoyle aspect. I haven't read anything with gargoyle's and I am glad that Jennifer decided to write a book featuring them. This book had a lot of action, romance and drama. I loved the character of Roth, he was dark, mysterious and even though he was a demon, he was so loyal to the main protagonist, Laurel. I am excited to continue on with this series and as always Jennifer's writing has an addictive quality to it. 4 out of 5 stars ...more

First of all, I had no clue to what this book was about. I really thought it was a new adult book but I was so wrong. It was mainly about gargoyles, vampires, demons, zombies with a love triangle too. It was definitely action packed which made me want to read more. Certainly will pick up the next book soon.
