What Members Thought

If this book were not required reading for a book club, I would not have read it. Its cover clearly suggests shallow Chick Lit and its ungrammatical title - with its missing question mark - implies frivolousness. Despite the adage about not judging a book by its cover (and title, I might add), this time first impressions were not wrong.

Laugh-out-loud funny, oozing with sarcasm and humor. Semple tells the story of Bee and her mother and the bond that links them no matter where or when they are. No one knows a mother like her children, but no one knows her children like a mother. Bernadette desends into crisis and, thus, rises above the circumstances that hold her down, making for a beautifully written masterpiece. I am obviously in the minority on this one. There are a lot of 4-5 star reviews on Goodreads, but I don't share the sentiment. Normally I would have given up on it quicker but I took it to the bitter end, hoping it would catch my interest.
Personally, I found it difficult to relate to the characters and their own drama.
